By downloading or using First Sips, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app. These terms form a contract between you and Edward Marno, the developer of First Sips.
1. Using the app
First Sips is licensed, not sold, to you for use strictly under these terms. You may install and use the app on any compatible device that you own or control, subject to the applicable app store terms (the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions for iPhone, or the Google Play Terms of Service for Android).
You agree to use the app only for lawful purposes. You will not:
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app.
- Use the app in a way that damages, disables, or impairs our services or the experience of other users.
- Use the app to store or share content that is illegal, harmful, abusive, or infringing.
- Upload content you do not have the right to upload.
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of our systems.
2. Age requirement
You must be at least 18 years old (or the legal drinking age in your country, whichever is higher) to use First Sips. First Sips is a tool for adults who drink wine responsibly and legally.
3. Your account and content
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. You are responsible for the content you upload to your cellar and journal, including wine photographs, notes, and ratings. You retain ownership of that content, but you grant us a limited licence to store, process and display it for the purpose of providing the app's features to you.
4. AI-generated wine information
First Sips provides wine information generated by artificial intelligence. While we strive for accuracy, AI can be wrong. Wine identifications, drinking windows, tasting notes, food pairings, and price estimates are provided for guidance and entertainment only and should not be treated as professional or authoritative advice.
Always verify important information (for example, the actual vintage, producer, or alcohol content) directly from the bottle, from the producer, or from a qualified sommelier.
5. Responsible drinking
First Sips is a tool for wine enthusiasts to catalogue and learn about wine. It is not intended to encourage excessive consumption. Please drink responsibly. Never drink and drive. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a medical condition affected by alcohol, consult your doctor.

6. Pricing and subscriptions
First Sips is currently free to download. If we introduce paid features or subscriptions in the future, we will clearly mark them and the applicable terms will be presented to you before you purchase. All purchases are processed by the relevant app store (Apple on iPhone, Google Play on Android) and are governed by their respective billing terms. Refunds are at the app store's discretion.
7. Third-party services
First Sips uses third-party services to work (notably Google Firebase for cloud storage and Anthropic for AI analysis). Your use of these services is also governed by their own terms. See our Privacy Policy for details of which services we use and why.
8. Availability and changes
We try to keep First Sips available and working at all times, but we cannot promise uninterrupted service. We may update the app, change features, or discontinue features from time to time. We will give reasonable notice of significant changes where we can.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
First Sips is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, whether express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will meet your specific requirements. We do not warrant the accuracy of wine identifications or any AI-generated content.
Nothing in these terms limits your statutory rights as a consumer under UK law.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Edward Marno will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of or in connection with your use of the app. Our total liability for any claim arising from these terms or the app will not exceed the amount you have paid us for the app in the twelve months preceding the claim (or £50, if greater).
Nothing in this section limits our liability for death, personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or anything else that cannot be limited by law.
11. Termination
You can stop using First Sips and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you seriously or repeatedly breach these terms. If your account is terminated, the rights granted to you under these terms will end, but sections that are intended to survive termination (for example, limitations of liability) will continue to apply.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, unless you live in a jurisdiction where local consumer law gives you additional rights.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes we will update the "last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you inside the app. Continued use of First Sips after changes means you accept the revised terms.
