Frequently asked

Which devices does First Sips work on?

First Sips is currently available on iPhone — it requires iOS 17 or later, and works on any iPhone running that or newer. An Android version is in development and coming soon. An iPad version is also planned.

When will the Android version be ready?

We're actively building an Android version with the same features as iPhone — scanning, shared cellars, sommelier mode, Vinography journal, and full cloud sync between iPhone and Android users in a shared cellar. We don't have a public release date yet. If you'd like to be notified when it launches, email us at [email protected] and we'll put you on the beta list.

Is First Sips free?

First Sips is free to download and the core cellar and journal features are free to use. AI-powered features (such as wine label scanning and sommelier recommendations) are likely to move to a paid plan in future, but you'll always be able to keep, view, edit and share the wines already in your cellar.

Does it work without an internet connection?

You can browse your existing cellar and journal offline. Scanning new labels requires an internet connection because the AI analysis runs on our servers. Your scans sync automatically once you're back online.

Is my cellar backed up?

Yes. Your cellar, journal entries and preferences are securely stored in the cloud and sync across your Apple devices when you sign in.

Can I share a cellar with someone else?

Yes. Go to Profile → Shared Cellars to invite your partner, family or friends to share a cellar. Everyone with access can add bottles, leave tasting notes, and mark wines as drunk. Perfect for couples and households who drink together.

How does the sommelier feature work?

Two ways. For "at home" recommendations, tell First Sips what you're eating and the occasion, and it suggests the best bottle from your cellar. For "at the shop", scan any bottle in front of you and get an instant verdict on whether it's worth buying, what it'll taste like, and how it'll pair with your plans.

The AI got a wine wrong — what can I do?

Tap the wine in your cellar and choose "Edit" to correct any field. Better lighting and a clear, straight-on photo of the label gives the best scan results. If you keep seeing the same mistake, please let us know so we can improve.

How do I delete my account?

Open the app, go to Profile → Account → Delete Account, and follow the prompts. Your data will be deleted within 30 days. Alternatively, email us at [email protected].

How do I export my cellar?

Go to Profile → Export Data to download a copy of your cellar and journal as a JSON or CSV file.

The app is crashing. What should I do?

First, try force-quitting and reopening the app. If that doesn't help, delete and reinstall — your cellar will resync automatically once you sign back in. If the problem persists, please email us with your device model and OS version so we can investigate.

Can I suggest a feature?

Absolutely — we love hearing from people who use the app. Email [email protected] with your idea.

Who made First Sips?

First Sips is made by Edward Marno, an independent developer based in London. It's a labour of love built for people who care about wine.
